INTERVIEW - transcript of communication with Abdel Moneim Elhoweris

We conducted the following interview with Abdel Moneim Elhoweris - a Sudanese consultant and activist whom we met in Khartoum and later corresponded with - during the course of researching our article, "Uncertainty in Sudan," for the April 2009 issue of In These Times magazine. His views on sanctions toward Sudan are of particular interest, as are his insights into Sudanese political dynamics. Unfortunately, very little of the interview made it into the final article.

NEW - Postcard from Khartoum & Radio Appearances

We’ve published a short contribution to the Foreign Policy In Focus “Postcard” series, based on our February trip to Khartoum. We discuss what we saw at the al-Shifa ruins and describe the atmosphere in Khartoum, home to both millions of displaced Southerners and Darfuris and Gaddafi’s luxurious Burj al-Fateh hotel, where a Coca-Cola costs $5.

NEW ARTICLE - debate on the "Responsibility to Protect" doctrine

We participated in an online debate about the ever-fashionable "Responsibility to Protect" (R2P) doctrine, hosted by the good people at Foreign Policy in Focus. Our initial piece is available here. The second-round responses, including ours, are available here.
